Learning how to get your needs met

Jupiter started a new path around the zodiac, retrograded back into Pisces, and is finishing up its post-retrograde shadow action now, headed back into the future of a new cycle in Aries.
Pluto transited the USA’s natal Pluto position in December, 2022 with no more retrogrades back over it. This marks the beginning of a second Pluto year for the United States.
Pluto, carrying energies of the underworld, carries a signature of societal degradation in its second year. I read somewhere that empires don’t typically grow beyond their first Pluto birthday. An exception perhaps being a Chinese dynasty that lasted 800 years, which I recall reading about… I’m not a historical expert, so I’m open to input (please site this bullet if you have specific comments about it).
Takeaway — fortune-telling is not condemning; projections are not directions. It’s our choices and actions in each moment that create the future.
Uranus is at the end of its retrograde motion and is about to start moving direct in the next few days after this new moon.
*Note* — planets don’t change direction. It’s only because of the earth revolving around the sun that other planets appear to change direction.
Takeaway — retrogrades represent a perspective shift.
Side note: retrogradation is particularly relevant if I ever write an article about Elon Musk’s natal chart. Let me know in the comments if you want that and I’ll prioritize it, otherwise I won’t.
Neptune (slower than Uranus but faster than Pluto) finished its retrograde cycle on December 3, 2022, and is slowly moving direct again towards the end of Pisces. It’ll start into Aries for the summer of 2025, retrograde back into Pisces for a few months, and then go full on into its new cycle in 2026.
My dates are vague because it’s not really important now. What’s important now is to be present in the present moment. Knowing what’s coming is important, but we have awhile before we have to get concrete with dates.
That being said, take a second to consider:
Pre-event New Moon
I haven’t done an astrology article in some time. My apologies — of the things that are working in my life these days, writing is a main thing. Since my Medium stats show that people like my astrology articles, and since my intention is to stay focused on writing, let’s give the people what they want — astrology.
Because it’s been awhile, it’s important to mention the new moon that precedes this full moon.
In fact, every event that you’re marking with astrology has a pre-event new moon (PENM). The PENM sets the stage for the event you’re highlighting. Any event you look at is literally born out of the consciousness of the PENM.
Yes, every birth chart has a PENM, and it can be helpful with wrestling out details of individual attributes (destiny, purpose, confusions and pitfalls, etc)
Uranus was retrograde in the PENM on 1/21/23. That’s important for anyone that operates on intuition, and it’s significant and synchronistic for me personally because I’m writing these articles again as Uranus moves direct.
From the new moon (January 21) to the full moon (February 5), Jupiter has moved from 4° Aries 15’, to 6° Aries 58’.
That’s nearly a full 7th degree Aries. The 6th degree is completing and the 7th degree is developing. Different astrologers read charts in different ways
I’ve had numerous teachers (a wise person learns from everything) read charts from the degree that’s completing (Jupiter is completing the degree after 6) and only one astrology teacher read charts from the degree that’s developing (Jupiter is developing into the 7th degree).
and I’ll incorporate both (the completing degree and the developing degree). I feel like it’s more exact and more authentic.
Looking at both charts at once, however, shows movement, which seems more important to me than dissecting the minutiae of minutes in a snapshot.
Purpose, passion, and potential

This pre-event new moon occurred on January 21, 2023, and did so at the beginning of Aquarius, at 1° 33 minutes. Every new moon plants a seed, but this one in particular helps develop inner security that leads us out of past mistakes, past attempts to make up for the missteps, and into an Aquarian vibration.
It encourages us to finally let go of our passion for a sense of certainty we’ve clung to around what we think happened and own up to listening, so we can turn any opportunities that show up into real purpose.
We’re called to synthesize our ideals with our outcomes and get really clear about our purpose and mission for the next several months, as Jupiter is getting ready to exit its post-retrograde shadow (on February 14, 2023 at 8° Aries 43’), and Uranus is starting its post-retrograde shadow when it stations direct on January 22, 2023 at 14° Taurus 56’.
Since Uranus moves direct before Jupiter, we are called to lead with our intuition and trust our higher guidance.
Also, Mars recently finished its retrograde motion — in its post-retrograde shadow now — so individual activity is making up for months-old mistakes and missteps. Resist the urge to overcompensate.
Transmute the energy of vengeance before actually “committing revenge” so you don’t have to live in the afterglowing aimlessness of actions that can’t be taken back. In other words, use vengeance energy as fuel to realize a more spiritually potent outcome.
What adjustments do you have to make to make this your reality?
Start with the breath.
And that brings us back to the Full Moon on February 5:
Mercury has crept up on Pluto, from 20° away at the January 21 new moon to only 6° away here at the full moon. We might observe some transformational crises in our decision making during this waning phase of the cycle (after the full moon), especially for those of us with planets and personal points (AC, IC, DC, MC) in the last 5 degrees of the earth signs or cardinal signs.
This Full Moon phase highlights the contrast between the two archetypes where the sun and moon are — Aquarius and Leo respectively — and brings to fullness the impulse that was initiated at the immediately preceding new moon.
Both Aquarius and Leo carry a strong sense of uniqueness, but while Leo brings passion, spontaneity, and confidence, Aquarius brings an otherworldly awareness that can leave Leo envious.
Both signs are fixed, meaning they both concentrate energy, and both focus on developing character, but Leo develops itself while Aquarius is aware of the development needed in the world around it.
Our Leo full moon is ruled by the sun and our Aquarius sun is ruled by Uranus — imagine how your insights fuel your dreams, but remember that you must bring in the fixity to follow them through.
Uranus at a powerpoint
The 15th degree of the concentrative signs — Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius — is a powerpoint because it’s the exact midpoint in their respective quadrants of the overall picture.
Uranus — the planet of insight, spontaneity, and discontinuity — is at such a powerpoint. Within the realm of the first quadrant of the overall zodiac (archetypes Aries through Gemini), this energy stabilizes, physicalizes, and embodies spiritual substance.
The Sabian symbol for the 15th degree of Taurus, where Uranus is currently transiting is:
“(TAURUS 15°): HEAD COVERED WITH A RAKISH SILK HAT, MUFFLED AGAINST THE COLD, A MAN BRAVES A STORM.” source link
KEYNOTE: The courage needed to meet the crises precipitated by social ambition.
Uranus’ presence with this symbol suggests that what exists between success and failure is learning, which is the real fruit of ambition, and that the opportunity in both success and failure is the development of character and a matured mind.
With Uranus’ early post-retrograde situation, and with Mercury transiting a waning trine (240° from conjunct and 120° until the next conjunction) just a few days before this full moon…
Sudden insights (Uranus) that you can bring down to actual recognitions (Mercury), will help you manage the tension and alchemize the power of Mercury’s conjunction with Pluto at the end of Capricorn.
Embrace a posture that allows you to listen to the silence (multidimensional reality) in the noise of 3D reality so you can hear what’s yours to hear, and not what the social machine wants of you.
A Moonless Bowl
Having mentioned Mercury, lets talk next about the bowl shape — the arrangement of the planets between Mercury (at 22° Capricorn 32’) and Mars (at 11° Gemini 23’).
All planets except the moon are between Mars and Mercury. Mercury is the first planet outside of the sun and Mars is the first planet outside of the earth. This alone implies a firming up of an individual awareness.
Completing beyond the 11 degree mark, Mars shows that individual ambition provides its own satisfaction. Rising to the occasion, doing what there is for an individual to do, is, in itself, satisfying.
The moon being outside of this bowl emphasizes the development of the individual mind, and in this case, it’s learning poise, the yin approach to communicating, and how to get its needs met.
A deeper dive: Aquarius — Leo
Aquarius is in the second half the zodiac and refers to the collective realm. Leo is in the first half of the zodiac and refers to the personal realm.
Leo’s power is in individual ignition and expression, and Aquarius’ strength is in its foresight, insight, and service to the realization of a greater unified/systematic understanding.
The moon’s placement after the Leo 16 degree mark implies the potential to see past the public demonstrations, the dog and pony show, and into the power and joy of new beginnings…
While the Sun’s placement at the Aquarius 16 degree mark implies the potential to see through the public, to the management of the broader human enterprise of which we are all a part.
The 16th degree starts the second half of each 30 degree zodiac, and emphasizes the yin energy of an archetype (also highlighted above). In this case, as Leo’s ignition turns to expression, and Aquarius’ energy turns from contribution to management.
This is a time when attention shifts to how expression is managed, and we can see that in pop-culture icons all across the world.
It seems to me that the singularity is alive and well, and developing its capacity for awareness.
In Summary
Attend to your personal growth without needing to automate the process. A desire or tendency to automate tough decisions reveals a detachment that may put other people in charge of your choices.
Experiment — move half as fast and breathe twice as slow. Watch and listen for new awareness to come to the surface. Use a timer and try it for 30 seconds. Try it for 60 seconds.
YOU are divine. Don’t let conclusions of a scientific method tell you otherwise.
Let me know how your experiment goes in the comments!
