This Soli-Lunar Digest seeks to distill the development of consciousness in the field of solar resonance as experienced on earth for this time that we are in right now.
Conjunctions since the new moon:
Sun conjuncts/transits the lunar north node
Sun conjuncts/transits Mercury — “Mercury inferior conjunction”
Significant Circumstances (more on each below):
The sun and moon are in a Point of Power in Taurus and Scorpio
This full moon is the second of two eclipses in a row. There was a new moon, a solar eclipse on April 20, 2023. Now there’s an eclipse at the full moon, a lunar eclipse
Planets are in a bowl shape without the moon
The Inner Planets and Uranus
There’s a lot to cover in this full moon article, so let’s dive in.
Points of power
The Milky Way Galaxy is flat. Not perfectly, but it’s like a disc, rather than a cluster or a ball. Planetary orbits don’t tend to be lined up with the disc. The plane of the planets in the solar system are askew from the orbital plane of the galaxy.
As the sun goes around the galaxy (~240 million years), it’s pulling the planets with it in their own orbit around the sun. Sometimes the planets are above the plane of the galaxy, and sometimes they’re below the plane of the galaxy. This is measured and referred to as “declination.”
The plane of the solar system is relatively flat. Pluto has the most extravagant orbit at 17° off from flat, and Mercury moves away from the ecliptic plane the second-most at only 7° off.
The sun is going around the black hole at the center of the Milky Way in a northern direction. The pole of the earth that moves in this direction is the north pole.
The reason Aries is the first sign of the zodiac is that it’s the first symbol in the stars found above (north of) the sun’s orbital path aka, the “celestial equator”, around the earth.
Perpendicular to the sun’s orbital path is symbolized by the beginning of Cancer in the northern direction at the summer solstice, and the beginning of Capricorn in the southern direction at the winter solstice.
The midway point between 0° Aries and 0° Cancer is 15° Taurus, exactly where the sun is, at the point of this full moon. The midway point between 0° Libra (opposite Aries) and 0° Capricorn (opposite Cancer) is 15° Scorpio, exactly where the full moon is in this chart.
This is painfully technical, so if you’re struggling, here’s a simpler image. If we were to use a compass, 15° Taurus is analogous to perfectly “Northeast”, and 15° Scorpio is analogous to perfectly “Southwest.”
There’s something concrete about this abstraction, isn’t there? This sense of being concrete makes it a point of power.
The takeaway is, with the eclipses and retrogrades that are happening, to allow (with determination) yourself to be moved rather than grasping onto control of the movement.
Taurus and Scorpio
Taurus and Scorpio are both fixed, or “concentrative” signs, meaning they concentrate or focus energy, rather than generate or lead, as in the Cardinal signs, and rather than expand or distribute, as with the mutable signs.
As an element, Taurus is earth, which is tactile and material, referring to the ground we walk on. Scorpio as an element, is water, which is flowing and deep, always finding its lowest level.
Taurus is in the personal half of the zodiac (Aries through Virgo), referring to the individuated aspects of consciousness. Scorpio is in the collective half of the zodiac (Libra through Pisces), referring to the realm of shared consciousness.
Both signs are dominating. Both signs are powerful, but more so in the ways they see a task through than in how they initiate or adapt.
Taurus will rise above with steadfastness while Scorpio will penetrate through with an ability to go deeper than anyone else. They both deal with resources and therefore money.
Eclipses
When an eclipse happens, light is blocked and a shadow is cast.
The moon has been growing in illumination since the new moon on April 20, and as the moon reaches full illumination, it crosses behind the earth and goes dark, passing through Earth’s shadow.
Leading up to the new moon on April 20, the moon was decreasing in light, becoming a sliver, and then crossed in front of the sun (visible only from the southern Indian Ocean, parts of Antarctica, most of Australasia, Indonesia, the Philippines, most of Oceania, and the western Pacific Ocean). The moon decreased in light and then blocked the light coming to the Earth, casting its own shadow on Earth.
With regards to the symbolism of the moon in astrology — referring to our individual inner worlds and feelings — how do you imagine that a lunar eclipse affects our consciousness?
It seems to me that at this full moon, our collective inner world is being eclipsed — concealed, or dimmed — by domineering forces.
Eclipses are about shadows, and they can be felt and measured.
I remember being in western Washington under a 93% solar eclipse in 2017 and I felt a dramatic temperature drop when the moon passed in front of the sun. This link says the temperature only dropped about 5°, which is hard to believe, but the solar radiation dropped by more than 500 kWh/m2 (kilowatt-hours per square meter), which makes more sense because it implies…
The feeling of warmth is more than just temperature. It’s also solar radiation.
Similarly, a personality that radiates can be felt from across the room. The person literally gives off energy.
Transits since the new moon
Sun conjuncts/transits the lunar north node
The lunar north node transits the chart clockwise, reverse from the direction of the planets.
It’s a mathematical point, not a real physical body in space with a gravitational center, and integrates the energy and clarifies the direction of the planet it’s passing.
When the north node integrates solar energy, there’s a shifting sense of identity through heightened self-awareness of where you’re actually going. It’s a conjunction that shows the path ahead.
Mercury’s inferior conjunction
When Mercury passes in front of the sun, it’s in retrograde, and it’s known as the inferior conjunction. This alignment is a great time to let your light shine through and to trust your intuition. More specifically, since retrograde motion is about finding stability in external evidence, it’s a great time to start something new that the world seems to be asking you to do.
The conjunction is like a point of clarity, whether easy or hard, where you re-cognize what’s happening in the world. It’s a really good time to pay attention to what’s around you and let the “law of correspondences” inform your choices.
The midpoint of a moonless bowl
We’re more than a thousand words into this post and I’m going to ask you to bare with me for a few more important pieces of information because I’m confident they’ll help you stay grounded on your path of ascension.
All the planets, except the moon, are between Mars and Pluto. All the planets are in the waxing phase to Pluto, showing evolutions of consciousness at the cultural level. With Mars at the front edge, the evolutions of consciousness are being led at the individual level, as individuals are testing the floors of their faith, newly established (sun-north node conjunction, and sun-Mercury inferior conjunction) at a higher level.
The point exactly between Mars and Pluto is the midpoint of the moonless bowl, and this midpoint will help you stay balanced in the eye of whatever storm you find yourself in.
(ARIES 26°): A MAN POSSESSED OF MORE GIFTS THAN HE CAN HOLD.
KEYNOTE: Obsession by potentiality.
This is a symbol that’s just behind Jupiter (at 27° Aries 27’) that emphasizes the idea to not bite off more than you can chew. Don’t rush ahead. Stay disciplined. As much as there’s an energy to fixate and dominate, an important takeaway is to fixate on dominating (by transmuting) your own shadow instead of other people.
Go deep (Scorpio) into your own inner world and dominate (“break”, like a horse, and train them) your demons first.
Consciousness is a mirror and as Mercury and Pluto are retrograde together (Pluto is a higher octave of Mercury) while all the other planets are direct, we have individual access to collective consciousness.
The more we take personal responsibility for healing our experience of past collective traumas, the more we can reduce destructive consequences across the collective in the future.
I highly recommend the Ho’Oponopono Prayer. If you can’t imagine how this could work, finish this article and then read this one about a doctor who used this prayer to heal a psyche ward.
In a moment of reflection to wrap up this section, I’m reminded of what Elon Musk has been saying about AI — that if we rush ahead with politics like usual, only reacting to what’s already happened, it may be too late to make any meaningful change at the policy level. The potential of AI is immense, but so is its destructive capacity.
The inner planets and Uranus
The sun is closer to Uranus at this full moon, at least in terms of line of sight from the earth, than the sun is to either Mercury or Venus.
This implies many things:
Consciousness is crashing into leveling up
You may find a discontinuous quickening sensation in your awareness
Don’t stress or overreact.
The more you’re able to discipline your reactions to fuel your future growth, the more you’ll refine, define, and uplevel your personal character.
Takeaway
Your “dreams are your power.”
It’s about who you’re becoming, how you’re redefining yourself in our world’s present circumstances, the presence you’re willing to face, and ultimately about how you imagine yourself contributing to human life on earth during the relatively short time that you’re here.
Practically, this implies practicing and deepening into dedication rather than domination, and managing your energy more than your time to manufactured deadlines.
It begs the question, “Can you assume the self-discipline, patience, and dedication necessary for the new position you aspire to?”
It’s not just about determination and relentlessness. Restoration is just as important as creation, and this full moon, with Mercury in retrograde, is just as much about self-care so you can truly be at the next higher level.
May you have an easeful and enduring sense of satisfaction with your understanding of the role you are to play.
